Every catalog entry must acknowledge at least one limitation or risk.
macOS only (Swift/AppKit) — no Windows or Linux support.
Hard-coded to the 1/2/3 keys, so setups with more than 3 displays aren't fully addressable.
Requires building from source with the Swift toolchain — no signed/notarized release binary.
What it does
Blacks out every display except the one you choose, so a single screen stays lit
while you focus. Launch it from the terminal, then press 1, 2, or 3 to
pick the screen to keep — the rest go dark until you dismiss it.
Install & run
git clone https://github.com/kyle-lesinger/display-blackoutcd display-blackoutswift run
Single-file Swift/AppKit tool — no dependencies beyond the macOS SDK.
When to reach for it
Screen-sharing or recording one monitor and want the others out of frame.
Killing visual distractions on secondary displays during deep work.
🛠 Developer’s suggestion
Make it yours: wrap the run command in a shell alias so you can black out screens from any terminal, then fork the single Swift file to hard-code your own display order and 1/2/3 keybindings.
alias blackout='swift run --package-path ~/tools/display-blackout'
